IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®
LECTURE SERIES

        The IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® LECTURE SERIES explores a myriad of issues which include, but are not limited to, economics, entrepreneurship, health, Fatherhood, the unique parenting needs of our young males and the critical and unique roles that Mothers and Fathers individually and collectively play in the meeting of these unique parenting needs and our young males’ journey from childhood to manhood; the powerful dynamics created in the workplace and in our personal lives as a result of the different manner in which men and women process stress and emotions; and developing and providing “life lines” for our youth – especially our young males.  Audiences will be enlightened, empowered and inspired by speakers from diverse backgrounds and diverse geographic locations who include: 

MRS. MELDA BEATY

          Her groundbreaking book, My Soul To His Spirit:  Soulful Expressions From Black Daughters To Their Fathers, is one of the reasons she is considered a rising star on the American literary scene.  She is an educator and lecturer who has taught, among other things, English at several universities including Northwestern University, Illinois State University, Heartland Community College and Olive Harvey College.  She is Mrs. Melda Beaty.  Beaty is the founder of the Black Graduate Student Association at Illinois State University.   At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign she was the Founder and Executive Director of "Expressions:  Black Women In The Arts."  She holds a B.A. degree in Broadcast Journalism and a M.A. in Writing. 

THOMAS R. GOLDEN, LCSW

          What would an organization's employees' stress levels at work and at home and the losses they experience in their personal lives and the fact that the organization's male and female employees process stress and loss differently have to do with an organization's productivity and bottom line? 

         "Plenty!  Knowing those differences can help a work group feel closer and will breed understanding.  When a work group feels understanding and closeness there is almost always a corresponding increase in productivity," says Thomas R. Golden, LCSW who is listed in Who’s Who In America.  Golden brings a gentle sense of humor and a gift for storytelling as he draws on his twenty-five years of practical, hands-on clinical experience.  He has presented workshops in the United States, Canada and Australia.  He also has a unique gift for storytelling which he uses to draw on his twenty-five years of practical, hands-on clinical experience.  Mr. Golden has been featured in articles in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and U.S. News and World Report and in interviews on CNN and CBS Evening News. His workshops are known to be entertaining and informative. He is the author of Swallowed By A Snake; The Gift Of The Masculine Side Of Healing and the co-author of A Man You Know Is Grieving:  12 Ideas For Helping Him Heal From Loss.  Mr. Golden is a Contributing Writer to a fatherhood book, IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R) -- TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES which was published in March 2004 by Xlibris Corp. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and edited by D.A. ALMAS JAMIL SAMI'

          Mr. Almas Jamil Sami’ (pronounced "Sahmee") is the Founder of Sohaja Publishing Company which is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas; the author of "The Unshackled MindTM" and a children's book, "When Trees Could Walk"; a consultant to the University of Northen Iowa; and lecturer to universities, colleges and organizations about race relations, teenage parenting and developing life skills. On a volunteer basis, he works with youths in prisons, juvenile detention facilities and schools where he teaches them how to gain skills which they can utilize upon their release into general society.  He is the host of a San Antonio, Texas weekly television show, "Scribz" and former co-host of the television show, "The Umoja Circle."  A former writer for "Our Legacy" Magazine, Mr. Sami’ is also a Contributing Writer to a fatherhood book, IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R) -- TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES which was published in March 2004 by Xlibris Corp. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and edited by D.A. YVETTE MOYO

          Yvette Moyo, president and CEO of Resource Associates International, Ltd., (RAI) has a proven track record as a marketing leader. She is best known for creating two brands, MOBETM and Real Men Cook®. She is also co founder of Real Men Charities, Inc., a nonprofit committed to building healthier families and communities.   Moyo has received many honors and awards. Her brands and products have been featured in TIME magazine, USA Today, USA Weekend and Southern Living. She is the recipient of the nationally recognized Public Relations Advertising and Marketing Excellence (PRAME) award, Chicago's Phenomenal Woman Award and The Technology Leaders Recognition Award during the "Black Family Technology Awareness Week."  RAI was named one of the Minority Business Report's Ten Outstanding Businesses and Moyo received the U.S. Postal Service's Black Enterprise Magazine Award for stamp campaigns she created and directed, as well as Community Mental Health Council’s Lifeline Award for Excellence.

        Moyo co founded and produces REAL MEN COOK® which she nurtured into the largest annual urban family-focused Father's Day celebration in America. TV news, radio and print coverage serves a media audience of 200 million annually. Since 1999 the events are produced as many as twelve U.S. cities, all on the same day, and have generated close to a million dollars for nonprofits. As a result she is credited for “transforming the way Father's Day is celebrated in America.”   Under her marketing direction the Real Men Cook Sweet Potato Pound Cake® is now sold in 800 grocery stores in Chicago, Atlanta, Miami and Milwaukee. Moyo successfully negotiated a six-figure book deal for the 2005 hardcover book, REAL MEN COOK: Rites Rituals and Recipes for Living, released by Simon & Schuster.  The paperback with the Foreword by Barack Obama will be released as a Father’s Day 2006 gift item.

          Ms. Moyo co-founded a leading African-American owned entertainment, marketing and technology conference series, Marketing Opportunities in Business Entertainment (MOBE), credited with opening doors for the advancement of Black businesses. Over $200 million in business has been generated to African-American companies as a result of connecting at MOBE symposiums. MOBE has featured Magic Johnson, John Legend, Regina Carter, Russell Simons, Brandy, Omar Wasow and Bernie Mac to name a few.

The 1999 MOBE White House Briefing on African Americans and Internet Technology and the first White House Briefing on African American Business & Technology are career highlights. Her career in sales and marketing spans twenty-nine years; beginning with door-to-door sales to neighborhood businesses for the Blackbook Business Directory and Dollars & Sense Magazine, where she became Senior Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing.  Ms. Moyo is a frequent speaker presenting a variety of marketing, entrepreneurship, business, health, fitness, and nutrition, family and self-expression topics.  She created and is currently champion for “Bonus Living for Families," philosophy and campaign to replace the word “step” with “bonus” to begin to language into existence more powerful blended, adoptive and foster families. She views motherhood as her proudest accomplishment having helped to raise eight bonus children and one biological son.  She is also a leader in Landmark Education, an international leadership and development training program provider.
